Kent is a professional bassist and band leader, as well as a retired Procurement & Supply Chain Management Senior Executive. Kent holds a BS Business degree from Rockhurst University, where he was an All-American basketball player, while also studying music at the University of Missouri Conservatory of Music. Kent has studied privately with prominent bassists such as Wendell Marshall, Milt Hinton, Rufus Reid, and Ron Carter. He has performed with a variety of local and national artists, including big bands and various small jazz ensembles featuring musicians: the George Hudson big band, the Ray Abrams big band, Trumpet Dave Burns, Michael Thomas Quintet, vibraphonists Monte Croft, Bryan Carrott alto saxophonists Andrew White, TK Blue, Eric Person, Ron Kearns, tenor saxophonist Bill Saxton, drummers Chico Hamilton, Jimmy Lovelace, Clifford Barbaro, Nasar Abadey, Eddie Gladden, George Coleman Jr., Greg Holloway, George Gray, Eric Kennedy, pianists Vince Evans, Stanley Cowell, Lynne Arriale, John Hicks, Allyn Johnson, Bob Butta, James Weidman, Benito Gonzalez, and trombonists Benny Powell.
In 2016, Kent founded TNEK Jazz LLC, a music production and publishing company focused on promoting jazz and collaborating with musicians, composers, and educators. He has released four recordings under the TNEK Jazz label.
